Minyoung Lee asked:

I am doing an assignment, and am researching background information on To Kill a Mockingbird. The question was, When and why did slavery end in the united states of America. Why was because of the Emancipation Proclamation, and the said year that it ended was 1865. But, there was some people who questioned about the year, and said it wasn`t accurate. Why was this? Can you explain it to me in simple text?

Well the Proclamation didn’t apply to all the states, and despite it, slavery continued long past 1865.
