In 2002, I worked for a company that I was fired from. They fired me on the basis that I was commiting ‘refund fraud’ in a retail environment. They told me as long as I returned funds, they would not do anything else, I would not have to worry about a background check, and I could even use them as a reference.

Now, I recently applied for a job and was denied the job because they reported this to a background checking company.

I did not commit this act and only complied because I was young, scared, and just wanted to leave. But now they are lying and I am being denied jobs because of it, even though they told me I would have nothing to worry about.

Is there any organization I can send a complaint to about this?
